Edmond R. Davis – In Memoriam

Edmond R. Davis
September 4, 1928 – August 19, 2011

Edmond Ray Davis, September 4, 1928 – August 19, 2011, was born in Glendale California.   A lifelong Californian, he grew up in Southern and Central California.   He attended Pepperdine University and graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1952, at the top of his class, Order of the Coif.   After 2 years in the Army, Ed began his distinguished legal career in 1955.  In 1999, he and long time friend, Michael R.  Whalen, formed Davis & Whalen LLP.  Ed’s last day in the office was Tuesday, August 16, 2011.   He spent Tuesday practicing the law that he admired and so respected.

Ed practiced probate, trust and estate, and tax law for over 56 years.   Along the way, he was the recipient of many distinguished awards and chosen by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America.  He received the Arthur K. Marshall Award, in recognition of his achievements and dedication to his profession.

Notwithstanding his professional accomplishments, for Ed, family and friends always came first.   Dinners, holidays, traveling, talking politics, tennis, baseball, golf, and fly-fishing were all about spending time with those he loved.

Ed supported various organizations all of his life.   Most recently, he was an active board member of the Children’s Bureau of Southern California, Fifield Manors, the Braille Institute of America, and Pepperdine University.

Ed is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Ruby; his two children, Sandra and Phillip; and his five grandchildren, Katharine Vickers Davis, Brooke Elizabeth Davis, Claire Pauline Davis, Lauren Nicole Dietrich and Kyle Phillip Dietrich.   They will love him forever, never forget him, and strive to honor him in their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider supporting the Children’s Bureau, Fifield Manors, Braille Institute and Pepperdine University.
